Brienz Rothorn Bahn

The Brienz Rothorn Bahn is one of the few remaining coal-fired steam cogwheel railways in Switzerland, climbing from Brienz on Lake Brienz to the 2,244 m summit of Brienzer Rothorn. Opened in 1892, this historic railway offers a one-hour ascent through alpine meadows and forests, with spectacular panoramic views of the Bernese Alps, including the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau peaks. Holders of the Swiss Travel Pass and the Swiss Half Fare Card receive a 50% discount on the railway fare. While staying in the Interlaken and Brienz region, many travellers also visit Jungfraujoch and Grindelwald First , both of which are popular day trips from the same base. The Brienz Rothorn Bahn operates seasonally from June through October.
